Reaching New Heights: A Story of Summiting Aconcagua
As the writer and editor for the Communications and Creative Services department at a university, I write the articles featured in each BEYOND publication. For this particular issue of BEYOND, I interviewed, researched, and wrote the feature story about CCU students who summited the highest mountain in the Western Hemisphere, Aconcagua.
Desolate, barren, and yet grotesquely beautiful, the 22,841-foot mountain is a challenging endeavor for even experienced hikers. Eight CCU students, along with two alumni and CCU’s director of Outdoor Leadership programs Derek Branstrom, trekked Aconcagua, the tallest peak outside of the Himalayas and one of the fabled Seven Summits—the highest mountains in the world.
